At the time of President John F. “Jack” Kennedy’s assassination around 12:29 p.m. CST, White House press secretary Pierre E. G. Salinger and several members of the Cabinet were airborne over the Pacific Ocean en route to Japan. Over the next hour, the White House Situation Room relayed to Salinger numerous reports on the developing situation in Dallas, including confirmation of the President’s death.
